The Beginning

Hello from India!

Or "Namaste!", like they says it here.

I'm 27y aged young man from Finland. But now I'm in India. This place is located 130 kilometers from every hippies holy place Goa.

I left Finland by myself two months ago without a real plan. My plan was to just go for travelling and see the world.

First destination was Nepal. I spent a month there and met some awesome people and got plenty of new friends. We did also some Himalayas trekking with three Italian traveller in Langtang national park.

Of course there happened lot in month in Nepal but later the time for those stories is.

Never walk alone

After month in Nepal I took a bus to India and stayed the holy city of Varanasi for a week (diarrea whole week).

Varanasi is not the most hygienic city of them all

Mother Ganges, the holy river. I asked from one local guy in a train that how many people gets sick from swimming in Ganges. The answer came directly and with very serious tone: No-one. It's holy water. You can not get sick from holy water. Zero persent.

Burning Ghats of Varanasi. Place where hindus burning dead people. You can go and see. But fortunately flames are big enough that you smell only burning wood.

This priest I met in Varanasi. During my evening walk he stopped me and invited to his home to hang around with dozen of other local men. They were playing instruments and singing something repeating sentence "Namasshivaaa"... Then we had Shiva ceremony in a temple in his yard. After ceremony we sat down to drink chai (milk tea) and smoking chillum.

From Varanasi I took a train to New Delhi with group of three Germans and after three nights in Delhi I continued alone with train 1800 kilometers journey to Goa and finally to Gokarna.

Indian chemistry teachers travelled train with me in a same dorm. This guy did all the time some special Indian chewing stimulant from nuts, spices and tobacco. Then we chewed and spitted reddish liquid altogether in a dorm until Mumbai city where they left the train.

About Gokarna

Gokarna lays 130km south from Goa in the west coast of India. Every morning you can wake up to peacefull sounds of Arabic Sea pre monsune waves and wind. Beaches are big, full of golden sand and coconut trees grows all over the place.

I'm living in a small peaceful place called Kudle Beach it's about kilometer from Gokarna village. Maybe this is bit more peacefull and hippish beach when it's bit more far from road and train stop aswell.

Most touristic season is from october to april. It's june now so it's off season here. Theres still some restaurants open with limited menu and rooms available. Food costs from 1$ to 4$ and you can get private room (=hut) with 3$/night.

There's not too much tourists here except small groups of Indians drinking and smoking hash or weed. And of course some random westernish (white skin) lifestyle hippies who lives all around the world and are from nowhere. Locals for sure lives here all over the year suprise suprise.

Even if everyone tolds otherwise, it's not too hot here. At the day it's something between 27 and 35c. But climate is wet and it's raining almost every day at some moment. At night temperatures are bit lower and very comfortable.

Yeah, the sea is bit hard right now when the monsune is arriving and in june-september it's gonna rain a lot. Beach guards won't even let people to go in to the sea. I think it's overreacting. You could easily swim in those waves.

Potsmoking

Compared to Finnish prizes (17-22$ gram) it's very easy and cheap to get weed or hash in India (0$ - 4$ gram) and same happens to be here in Gokarna. Everyone seems to be smoking all the time here.

In India you could technically end up in jail for years for smoking weed. I've heard stories about people paying police some money between 8$ and 40$ and it's done.

Even in Kudle beach I've seen police many times. Usually they're just walking, sitting and chatting in restaurants having beer for now. Heard they made good money during season.

Summary

I've been travelling for two months soon and all the time thinked and planned about writing or producing some content. But didn't know what, to who, or how. Yeah I've tweeted something and posted something fb and ig. But you shouldn't think too much. Just do. Thinking has never lead anyone to anywhere. So now I'm writing.
